Our Portfolio Approach
To assess members’ progress, we use a portfolio approach. Staff reflect on each member’s participation monthly and produce a Monthly Member Milestone report that chronicles the achievements and challenges each member experienced. Members, meanwhile, collect artifacts of their work demonstrating achievement and mastery and archive them digitally as part of their personal portfolio.
Members, staff, and family then meet monthly to discuss the member’s milestone report and personal portfolio. These meetings provide an opportunity for families to stay informed about their loved one's progress and provide valuable input into the planning and implementation of their learning. We value open communication with families and are committed to working together to ensure the best outcomes for our members. Members and their families also reflect on their portfolio over time to evaluate their growth and where they’re headed.
We also employ member feedback mechanisms after subject-specific units, which helps us reshape materials for future use. This helps us determine what experiences stick with a member so we know what each member might wish to learn more about. We seek informal feedback from members frequently, asking if they liked the unit, if they learned from the unit, how they would suggest we change the unit, and more.
We understand the importance of family involvement in the growth and development of our members. We distribute Family Satisfaction Assessments every two months to gather feedback from families about their overall satisfaction with our programs and services. This feedback is a critical component in helping us continuously improve and provide the best possible experience for our members and their families.
Our curriculum and assessment system is well received by members and their families, according to routine surveys of members and families. Ninety-five percent of our members and families report very good or excellent satisfaction. Eighty-one percent of families rank us as Excellent, and 96 percent rank us Excellent or Very Good. In addition, 95 percent of families say that they would recommend us to a friend or fellow parents.
“Our daughter’s continued deep engagement and learning with this unique community and our ongoing regard for the commitment and skill level of the staff make us so glad every day that there’s a 3LPlace for her and us.”
