Goals and Learning Modules
Evidence-based research and best practices drive our learning and assessment models. They are crucial to our ability to bring the most effective training, skills-development, and community experiences to our members every day. We want all of our members to discover satisfying things to do, to engage with people they care about and others in their daily lives, and to make a positive difference in their world.
Learning modules give us the framework to deliver on that promise.
Members’ personal goals are organized into five domains: Self-care and responsibility, social connectedness and communication, citizenship, creative expression, and work and career. Each of these domains is supported by learning modules and lesson plans. Those strategies and materials encourage increased independence and appreciation for ourselves, improved self-expression and navigation of individual relationships, reflection, and curiosity.
Self-care and personal responsibility focuses on supporting skills development for independent living, such as nutrition, sleep, hygiene, shopping, cleaning, cooking, budgeting, and more. We also address positive mental health routines and activities.
Social connectedness and communication helps us create and sustain friendships, both one-on-one and as part of a community. Engagement, reciprocity, and self-advocacy are an important part of this module, and members often value it the most.
Citizenship reminds us that we are members of many communities – our families, 3LPlace, our cities or towns, our state, our country, and the world. We believe citizens must understand their rights and responsibilities. Values such as kindness, acceptance, and honesty are emphasized in this module, and community safety and navigation are also crucial parts.
Creative expression creates time and a safe space for members to reflect and express themselves.
Vocational readiness allows members to develop pre-vocational skills and to identify job interests and the quality of job-fit. We support the creation of advocacy and accommodation plans that may be needed at work, and we link members with employment agencies like the Mass Rehab Commission, Best Buddies, and Jewish Vocational Services.
