A Circle of Friends

The women members of 3LPlace members have some big ideas about what they can do together. At a “Women’s Power Meet Up” that we held earlier this month, they shared them.

Mari suggested “we can have a women’s group and meet regularly, like a circle of friends.” Amadi is ready for a “dancing celebration with Selena Gomez music.” Rose wants to hit the Olive Garden for a women’s night out. And whatever the crew has in mind Maggie is ready to bring her nail polish to add some splash.

Until very recently, Mari was the only woman at 3LPlace. She said it wasn’t difficult, but she also wanted some female friends around.

Now with four women members, “we have a whole new texture to our community,” according to Meghan Montgomery, 3LPlace’s Co-Executive Director.

“For so long, we heard from prospective families ‘This would be perfect if there were more women.’ From a growth standpoint, this is a special moment for us in that regard. Our new members are very much connecting with each other and with all the members. They’re adding warmth and joy and hope.”

And they’re ready to make some noise. When asked what being a woman means to her, Rose said “You can laugh so loud. You can dance what your heart desires.”

From the very start, Meg said that she was “impressed with how conversational the group was…It was special, the way they were opening up to questions, concerns, and confusions. It’s early, but we look forward to supporting the women to have fun, empower each other, and reach for the stars, as well as learn more about women in history, women's rights, and women's health.”
